A truly splendid versatile actor, sadly no longer with us.  Who could even forget a face or voice like Sid's?  I have spent many enjoyable hours watching his early films, and never get bored at the repeats.

A great character actor.  I cannot find a site anywhere that tells of his stage career.  In the same year he made The Lavender Hill Mob Sid was appearing in Kiss Me, Kate at the London Coliseum, playing one of the gangsters (with Danny Green, the heavy of The Ladykillers fame).

It\'s not the Carry Ons that I will remember him from (though I love \"Carry On Dick\", but one of Britain\'s most love classic comedy series of the 1970s \'Bless This House\'.  The episode I recall was the one with the infamous poltergeist and the way in which Sid couldn\'t pronounce the word properly saying \"plastergeest\".  Always in my memory is his \'dirty\' laugh.  Being born in 1965, I was brought up in the era of the 1970s classics but Bless This House was my favourite and I will always regard Sid as the King of Classic British Comedy.  I remember the night he died and his death being reported on the BBC Nine o\'clock News.  He went to a better place and I\'m sure he\'s up there now entertaining all the angels and saints.  God has also taken a breather and is sitting back having a laugh.  Thanks Sid!!!!  A fantastic website too.  Keep up the good work!
